Unity Disposal & Recycling, LLC (Unity) is a progressive owned and operated business located in Laurel, Maryland. The firm was founded in 1996 by two (2) local entrepreneurs with over thirty (40) years combined business experience in residential refuse & Recycling collection services. Unity has a cadre of personnel consisting of a unique blend of multidisciplinary skill and management expertise. Our diversity of management and human resource services, combined with our ability to effectively assess, plan, assign, coordinate and manage assignments, enables us to excel in meeting a wide range of customer required services. Cordell Proctor, Member/Chief Executive Officer
Rising from the rear step of his father’s trash truck over 40 years ago, Mr. Proctor has worked his way up through the ranks of solid waste collections and transportation. In 1982, Mr. Proctor began to learn the aspects of supervision and management as a supervisor with Waste Management of the Greater Washington DC Metropolitan area. He gained first-hand knowledge of route development, route implementation, route auditing and assessment, organizing activities and supervising manpower. In 1992 Mr. Proctor became Manager of Waste Management, Southern Maryland Division, were he was tasked with managing refuse collection activities in Charles County, St. Mary’s County and Southern Prince Georges County Maryland. Mr. Proctor has been the Division Manager of Unity for the past 14 years and has helped manage and grow the business utilizing his past experiences. Mr. Proctor has over thirty (30) years of solid waste production and supervision expertise.
Jerald Boyd, Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Boyd started to learn the refuse business when his family entered the industry via employment with Waste Management during the 1990’s. Having experienced virtually everything the waste industry had to offer; from being a helper on the back of a residential refuse truck, route monitoring/auditing, to managing mergers and acquisitions of a $50,000,000 over-the-road trucking operation, the only endeavor that seemingly hadn’t been breached was upper level management. At Unity, Mr. Boyd oversees the Montgomery County Municipal Operations, as well as the balance of the management and day-to-day facility practices.
Miguel Saavedra, Operations Manager
As a residential helper in 1992, working for one of the top refuse companies in the nation, Mr. Saavedra began to excel as a residential collector. In 1994 he received his Commercial Drivers License and in 1996 he joined the Unity team. Under the tutelage of Mr. Proctor, Miguel began his training as a route supervisor. Mr. Saavedra has over 13 years of supervisory and training management experience.
Peter Arens, Loss Control Manager
With over 25 years of experience, Mr. Arens confirms Unity’s compliance with federal, state and county occupational safety and health requirements as well as highway vehicular compliance through the department of transportation inspection procedures. Mr. Arens also does field observations, checking employees’ work and safety performance to ensure that we are utilizing the most current ergonomical work methods, thereby reducing accidents, work related injuries and employee down time.
Mike Redmiles, Maintenance Manager
Mr. Redmiles and his staff maintain a fleet of over 75 vehicles. Proper maintenance and preventive maintenance programs are of the utmost importance to the management team at Unity. Mr. Redmiles works diligently so that our fleet is ready to service our customers each and every day.
